Easy Indian Tomato Soup Recipe using Fresh Tomatoes

Tomato Soup is among the tastiest soups, which is liked by everyone. It is the most popular dish in India and has taken the front page in Indian restaurants menu. Tomato soup has juicy and tangy flavor with a pleasant smell of ripe tomatoes. Tomato soup made with fresh tomatoes is very nutritious and healthy compared to canned soup. Homemade fresh tomato soup is also cheaper and tasty than canned soup. Tomato soup tastes great with toasted croutons. It can be made in variety of styles at home. Here are some of the simple, easy and delicious fresh tomato soup recipes which can beat canned soup.

Tomato soup is very healthy as it provides all health benefits that come from eating raw tomatoes. Tomato soup is loaded with healthy compounds, especially Lycopene. You can give tomato soup to children and ill people. Homemade fresh tomato soup is cheaper, healthier and tasty compared to canned soup. Addition of cream is not compulsory in this soup but it adds richness to it.

Recipes of Indian Tomato Soup

Recipe 1

Ingredients:
  • ½ medium Carrot
  • 10 to 12 medium Tomatoes
  • Few Basil leaves
  • ½ tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 4 cloves Garlic (chopped)
  • 2 inch stalk Celery
  • 1 medium Onion
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 4 to 6 Peppercorns
  • ½ tsp crushed Peppercorns
Method of preparation: First of all cut the tomatoes into quarters and carrots into roundels. Take a pan, add oil and butter. Then add sliced onions, bay leaf & peppercorn and sauté till the onions become translucent. After that, add garlic, celery, carrot & tomatoes and stir-fry for about 1 minute. Add 3 cups of water and bring it to boil. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Now, strain the mixture with the help of a sieve and keep the liquid aside. Take away bay leaf and peppercorns from the residue as well as let it to cool. With the help of a blender make a smooth puree and again strain it. Add the reserved liquid to the puree and put on the heat again. Add salt and crushed peppercorns and let it to boil for few mins. Add the basil leaves before serving.

Recipe 2

Ingredients:
  • 5 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1/3 cup split yellow gram
  • ½ cup finely chopped onions
  • Black pepper powder
  • 1/3 cup warm low fat milk
  • Salt to taste
Method of preparation: Take split yellow gram & tomatoes and pressure cook them with 3 to 4 cups of water until the dal is cooked. Then cool the mixture and blend it with blender. Keep the mixture aside. Now take a pan, add butter and onions. Sauté onions for about 3-4 minutes and add the tomato purée. Add cornflour by mixing it with little water and boil for 2 minutes. Finally add milk, sugar, salt and pepper as well as bring it to a boil. Serve hot with toasted bread croutons.

Recipe 3

Ingredients:
  • 8 medium Tomatoes
  • 31/2 cups Water
  • Bay leaf
  • ½ Tbsp Butter
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Cumin powder
  • ¼ tsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp Cream for garnishing
Method of preparation: Take a saucepan, put tomatoes & water and bring it to boil. Then, decrease heat and cook till the tomatoes become tender. With the help of blender, make the puree of tomatoes. Add water in the puree and strain with the help of strainer. Now, in a pan heat butter and add bay leaf, red chilli powder, black pepper powder, cumin powder, salt and ginger-garlic paste. Add puree and bring it to boil. Serve hot by garnishing it with cream.

Recipe 4

Ingredients:
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 chopped tomatoes
  • 1 chopped small onion
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper powder
Method of preparation: Take a pressure cooker, melt butter in it and add onions. Sauté them till they become light brown and add tomatoes. Cook 2 to 3 mins and add 4 cups of water. Close the cooker lid and cook up to two whistles. Then, turn the heat off and allow it cool. With blender, blend the tomato mixture and strain with a strainer. Now, in a saucepan heat the soup again and add sugar, salt and black pepper powder. Garnish it with cream & bread croutons and serve hot.
